(Below is the full texts of the message I delivered before the assembly of Philippine-registered architects who are based in Vancouver BC, Canada on January 22, 2011 during the group’s registration and information meeting. The purpose of the assembly was to established a local chapter of the United Architects of the Philippines)
Welcome fellow Pinoy architects. I have to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for taking your precious time just to attend in this special gathering. Today we begin a new journey, a journey to charter a path that will definitely serve the best interests of our well being as Pinoy architects.
It has been a dream of so many Filipino architects in the past years to have an organization that will help to nurture our professional career, enhance our education and skill and share the experience and knowledge we learned through the years. While there may be various organizations with similar goals, we are aspiring for an organization that will not only seek to upgrade our professional excellence but will deeply cater to our needs to include fellowships, professional and personal relationship and the pride to uphold our identity as being uniquely Filipinos.
The United Architects of the Philippines, being the Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization in the Philippines with numerous accolades and consistent policy of maintaining academic and professional excellence through its members deserves to be replicated its mission and goals in this part of Canada. It is for this basic logic that we opted to establish the UAP BC Chapter.
Today, our dream to have that organization is at hand. It is a reality and the great part of that reality is you ( all of us) inside this room and of course those several architects who weren’t able to come but have signify their intention to help us and be members of this organization. Everyone of us will stand to be the very foundation of this chapter. The success and the future heritage of UAP BC Chapter depend on our resolve to act, decide and govern this noble professional organization.
I personally believe and take pride of us being Filipino architects. I believe in our potentials, wisdoms, passion and above all, our desire to create new things for the built-environment, may they be structures made of stone or steel or structures forging harmonious human relationships.
And so today, as I join you in commencing this new journey, let me share this noble saying that will become a preamble of our every endeavor that we will be undertaking.
“ With Vision, May We Always Build.
In Humility, May We Always Build,
Patiently, May We Always Build,
With Artistry, May We Always Build.
Even If The Whole World Ravage and Destroy, May We Always Build.
Bridging the World of Difference, Letting Fall to Ruin the House of War
And Enlarging the House of Peace. While the breath of the Great Architect is in Us,
MAY WE ALWAYS BUILD.”
More power to our group. “Mabuhay po tayong lahat! ” - Joe B. Larano
