Rendering- The Final Output

by JB Larano Richmond BC

I’ve finally completed the rendering of the residential tower. I’ve ran another render output from Kerkythea rendering system  taking into consideration the lighting requirement and where possible locating the camera in the right spot where I consider as the vantage viewpoint to get the best perspective view. In addition to this, is the positioning of the building or main subject of the composition in the intersection or near the third vertical line according to the “Rule of Third” for effective composition. As I’ve said earlier in my previous posts, my intention of rendering this project is not to have a full render from Kerkythea rendering system but instead adding the entourage such as trees, cars, people and other landscape elements through post-processing. Post-processing, in rendering context, refers to the use of other softwares after the rendering of the model was completed by the main rendering software. Post-processing includes image editing to color temperature, saturation, scaling and pixel adjustments. I acquired those non-copyrighted  images from internet and added in the base image layer using Photoshop. Lighting condition, color temperatures and saturation were adjusted accordingly using Photoshop editing features to ensure these image elements match with the color and saturation of the base image.

(Image below: Detail of the area on  left of the main image above.) The entourage looks complete with the addition of fountain, grassy areas and surrounding tree foliage.

Rendering a Residential Tower

JB Larano, Richmond BC

The model of this residential tower was fully modeled in SketchUp and rendered in Echo 2008 Kerkythea rendering system. So far, the quality of rendering is good and the rendition of shades and shadows are excellent. The material tonal values are recognizable and the effect of light on materials are realistic enough. I am posting this view as a study to get the most acceptable viewpoint to place the camera. The overall composition is not complete as I have not place yet those entourage elements such as buildings in background, trees, cars, people etc. You might think that this building is located in the middle of nowhere. These entourage will be added later on and once these elements are added the building and environment will begin to have life and activities.

Composition Study

The rule of thirds is a compositional rule of thumb in visual arts such as painting, photography and design. The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections. Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would.
